Where are you Beccy?
4th March, 2008
For the writing of the first draft of Everything You Ever Wanted I created an Ipod playlist of Aimee Mann, Fiona Apple and the lovely Alanis. I essentially listened to the same 40 songs on a loop every day that I wrote. It became kind of hypnotic, so that I wasn't so much aware of the songs as the mood of the novel.
Anyway, for the rewrites I've made a new playlist including some of the above, but have added in three songs by the lovely Beccy Owen - the songs in question, for anyone interested are Mention, The Funny Side and Little Me.
So, imagine my delight when I discovered Beccy on Facebook and she agreed to be my friend!!!!
BUT!
A few days ago Beccy Owen mysteriously vanished from my Facebook. For a neurotic paranoid pony like myself this is quite traumatic.
I took it personally, I wondered what strange insult I could have accidentally sent her? Was it the cover of the novel that sent her scarpering? Then I realised she had vanished from the whole of Facebook!
Using my finely honed detective skills (Google) I have discovered that Ms Owen is in the process of setting up a web site. A web site which currently redirects to her My Space.
My Space???????? My bottom more like. I don't do My Space. As my stepson happily told me, 'it's not for old people.'
So. It seems that at 38 I am too old to be even virtual friends with Beccy.
They'll be taking my Ipod off me next and saying I have to listen to Wireless 4 and Cliff Richard only. They'll stop me texting and downloading and saying things are nang! They'll tell me to be more age appropriate with my clothes...they might even stop me writing in purple ink. Take away all my residual adolescent behaviours and oh my God...I'd be one of those proper grown ups.
Anyway, to show that there are no hard feelings toward Ms Owen here's an extra plus for her.
If you haven't heard of Beccy Owen then you will soon. She has already had two albums out through Fairy Snuff records called The Sweetest of Tales from the Bitterest Edge and The Singer Kicks. And I think she is working on a third.
And here's a little video of Beccy singing Monkey for anyone interested.
I'm not normally a 'joiner' of things, but if someone wants to start an Facebook campaign to BRING BACK BECCY then count me in.
Laters!
